Rizzi / Judkins Genealogy

The surname Rizzi, (Ritz in Latin), originally described a person with curly hair. Rizzi literally means "one with curly hair" or "the curly hair ones". It is believed that the surname Rizzi/Ritz originated in or around Venice around 900-1100. Prior to 1000 people were known by their given name. Surnames were developed to differentiate between people with the same name. Ritz family migrated to various points including the valleys inn the Italian Dolomite's including Val di Non, Val di Sole and Val di Fassa. My Rizzi family located to Cavizzana in the Val di Sole for many years until the family later migrated to Cloz in the Val di Non. In the mid to late 18800's many families with the surname Rizzi emigrated from northern Italy to the United States as well as South America, Mexico and Australia. The Rizzi surname is also found in Italy, Austria, Germany and France. Variations of Rizzi include, Ritz (latin), Rizi, Rizzo, and Ricci.
